Watch Jamies American Road Trip online
Jamie Oliver is setting off on the culinary journey of a lifetime as he travels around the USA for his new six-part series. Jamie is heading off the beaten track to find the real underground food and meet up with the unsung heroes who make American food far more interesting and varied than its reputation allows. Rather than fancy restaurants and top chefs, he'll be meeting, and learning from, real cooks making honest food for working people at street stalls, off-road diners and down-to-earth local restaurants. Along the way, he’s picking up delicious new recipes, experiencing tastes old and new, and learning how other cultures adapt when they come to the USA. From cowboys to alligator hunters, and ex-gang members to high-society ladies, Jamie wants to discover the real heart of America, through its people, culture, music and – most importantly - its food.
Jamie's getting to know America by cooking and tasting his way around the States. He's on a one man food quest without a guide book or even a cookery book.
The Navajo Indian reservation is the size of Scotland and the largest area of Native American managed land in the US. With the help of mayor, Roy Cadee, Jamie will be learning some original American cooking, fishing for rabbits and making traditional food trendy in an attempt to wean the Navajo youth off their fast food diet.
"If you really want to get a taste of the original American food, this is going to be where it's at," says Jamie, heading into the wilderness.
Jamie finds himself in the Deep South as he visits the state of Georgia in the fifth episode of Jamie’s American Roadtrip. One of the country’s poorest states and birthplace of the civil rights movement, Jamie embarks on a recession roadtrip across the state.
Jamie makes the trip to Louisiana where he hunts alligators and cooks gumbo.
Jamie continues with his trip as he makes it to New York. Whilst in Queens, he tries spicy stuffed flatbreads and hookah and also dines at an illegal Peruvian restaurant run within a family house. He then talks to Columbian bus driver who provides food for illegal immigrants.
